How to Wear the Sash With the Kilt

The kilt is one of the most important garments of Highland attire, as it directly represents traditional Scottish customs and history.  Out of respect, it is crucial to wear such time-honored garments correctly. While the Scottish employ a more conventional and established manner of wearing the kilt, you’ll find there is slightly more leeway when it comes to wearing the sash.Other People Are ReadingHow to Make a Sash for a KiltShirts to Wear With Womens KiltThings You'll Need5 to 6 yards of pleated tartan materialBelt Earrings for sale Show MoreInstructions

1Buckle your belt in place to keep the kilt from shifting. You should have2 to 3 yards of tartan material left over. Drape the remaining material diagonally across your chest, over your left shoulder.

2Allow the remaining material to fall behind your left shoulder to your left hip. Pin it towards the front of your right hip with a brooch. Alternatively you can pin it at the top of your left shoulder and let the rest of the material drape behind you freely.

3Take the remaining material and pull the left corner of it around your back, and pull the right corner up to meet it at the left shoulder. There you can knot it at the top. This will give you a cape-like structure by your back.
